Ingredients

Ginger Simple Syrup

  • 4 cups chopped ginger skin on
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar

Raspberry Simple Syrup

  • 2 cups of raspberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

For the Cocktail Situation

  • 1 ounce 2 tablespoons ginger simple syrup
  • 1 ounce 2 tablespoons raspberry simple syrup
  • Half a lime sliced in half
  • 5-6 raspberries
  • 2 ounces 4 tablespoons bourbon
  • Ice
  • seltzer

Instructions

Make the ginger simple syrup:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine ginger, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to very low and allow to simmer until
  • the ginger is somewhat translucent and the syrup is a yellow color, about 30 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow the ginger to steep for about an hour. Strain and either discard
  • the ginger or save it for another use. If saving for another use, make sure you peel the skin off the ginger. I just like the color of the syrup imparted by the skin.Place the simple
  • syrup in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid and store in the refrigerator until ready to use. Makes a little less than 3 cups of sumple syrup.

Make the raspberry simple syrup:

  • In a small saucepan combine rasberries, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to alow. Allow it to simmer until the raspberries
  • break down and mixture is of a syup consistency, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the raspberries to steep for about an hour.
  • Strain into a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Discard the raspberries. Makes about 1 1/2 cups of simple syrup

Make the cocktail -

  • To a cocktail shaker add the ginger and raspberry simple syrups. Add the lime slices and raspberries. Muddle with a muddler or back of a wooden spoon until lime
  • juice and fragrance is released and the raspberries are mashed. Add the bourbon and ice. Place lid on the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain, pouring into a glass and top with seltzer. Add additional ice if desired. Makes 1 cocktail.
